Telecommunications
services provider ScopeTel Sdn Bhd is in the process of securing more
satellite-based communications projects with oil and gas companies
abroad. It hopes to secure new contracts in Nepal, Indonesia and Africa. Oil and gas players account for half of the group's business. The telecommunications entity's offerings leverage on the satellite-based very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology. With
VSAT, onshore and offshore workers in the oil and gas fraternity can
communicate via telephones and computers to facilitate operations. Having
offered satellite-based services since 1995, the company has to date
made its presence in Africa and Turkmenistan, apart from servicing
home-based clients. Adapted from "Business Times", 1 September, 2005
