C-Band and Ku-Band VSAT System

VSAT systems can operate using various industry frequencies such as C-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-Band, and X-Band. However, most commercial VSAT networks use the C-Band and Ku-Band frequencies.

C-Band frequency range from 3.6 - 4.2 GHz for receiving and 5.8 – 6.4 GHz for transmitting. Ku-Band ranges from 10.9 – 12.7 GHz for receiving and 13.7 – 14.5 GHz for transmitting.

C-band, with its lower frequency, allows operation regardless of weather conditions, especially the rain effect, and is most suitable for tropical regions with heavy rainfall. However, C-Band VSAT requires a larger antenna, starting from 1.8 meters and above, to operate.

Ku-Band's higher frequency is affected by weather conditions such as rainfall and therefore provides less reliability in tropical regions. The good thing is that the Ku-Band VSAT system requires a much smaller antenna to operate, with the antenna as small as 0.67 meters.
